LUCCA Tempo: Drain the Boiler Without Heat or Power
If you machine is unable to fully heat or power on at all, use these steps to prepare your machine for shipping, storage or repair.
Tools required:
- #1 Philips head screwdriver
- 10mm combination wrench
- Dishtowel or soft surface

- Unplug the machine from the power source and ensure it is fully cooled. Remove the top panel.
- Use the 10mm combination wrench to loosen the compression fitting on the outlet side of the pump.
Hold the metal pump fittings steady with your opposite hand to assist with removal of the compression fitting. - Pull the compression fitting back from the threads and gently wiggle the tubing loose. Direct the free end over the side of the machine like so:
- Next, place a dishtowel or similar padded material on the countertop.
Tip the machine onto its back and place the reservoir underneath the end of the disconnected compression fitting. - Open the steam valve fully to allow air to be drawn into the boiler.
Water will begin to flow out of the tubing and into the reservoir. - Once drained, tip the machine back upright. Close the steam valve and reconnect the compression fitting. The boiler has been fully drained and machine is now ready for shipping or extended storage.
***CAUTION: Running the machine with an under-filled boiler can cause damage to the heating element. When resuming use of the machine, be sure to run the grouphead for at least 30s or until water begins to flow. This will ensure the boiler is completely filled with water to protect the heating element***
