Profitec MOVE: Group Head Cleaning and Maintenance
These instructions will guide you through the process of cleaning and maintaining your Profitec MOVE dual boiler espresso machine
Please note that while the images and maintenance video displayed below feature the Pro 300, these instructions are applicable for the MOVE and the same tools are required.
Cleaning the Group Head & Backflushing
- Remove the portafilter basket and insert the backflush basket into your portafilter. Add 1/2 teaspoon (3 g) of Cafetto EVO Espresso Machine Cleaner. Lock your portafilter into the group head.
- Once you remove the shower screen, use a group head brush to clean the the group head including the group head gasket area. Pop the shower screen in your portafilter and scrub both sides of the shower screen.
- Optionally, you can soak the shower screen and portafilter basket in a cup with (1L) hot water from the MOVE's hot water spout and 1 teaspoon of Cafetto for around 15-30 minutes, depending on how dirty they are. Ensure that you do not submerge the portafilter handle in the cleaning solution.
- Activate the brew cycle for ~10 seconds and allow the machine to release pressure. Repeat ~10 times. The frequency depends on how dirty your group head is. Once the water runs clear and there is no soap residue left is an indicator that your backflush is complete.
- Remove the portafilter. Activate brew cycle and rinse portafilter in stream of water from group head. Stop the brew cycle. Wipe dry with a clean microfiber towel.
- Make and discard a shot of espresso (only for detergent backflush).
- Rinse with water and put filters back (only for detergent backflush).
Incorportaing backflushing into your monthly maintenance routine takes just five minutes and pays off in better-tasting espresso and fewer repairs, but it doesn’t clean everything beneath the dispersion screen. A quick scrub or replacing the screen can make a noticeable difference in the cup. Removing and cleaning the dispersion screen is a simple weekly task that helps keep your machine performing at its best. Below, we’ll cover how to remove, clean, and reinstall the most common types of screens.
Replacing the Group Head Gasket & Shower Screen
We recommend replacing the group gasket and screen yearly. You can find group head maintenance kits in our web store:
