Step 1: Inspect the box and the machine for damage
Remove the machine from the box and place it on a stable, level surface.
Before adding water and turning on the machine, inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. If you notice any damage, contact us immediately.
Step 2: Water quality, the water filter, and filling the reservoir
Before introducing water to your machine, test it to make sure it's adequately soft, between 35 and 85 ppm (parts per million). To learn more about our water recommendations, check out our blog post, The Importance of Water and Your Espresso Machine. Do not use distilled or Zero water in your espresso machine, as the machine will not register that the reservoir has been filled.
Your MOVE 2.0 includes a water filter cartridge. Prepare it according to the filter manufacturer's instructions, then press it into the filter adapter inside the reservoir until it clicks into place. Installing a dry cartridge can cause loud pump noise and draw air into the system.
Remove the reservoir lid from the top of the machine. Fill the reservoir with filtered, softened water to just below the rim, either in place or by lifting it out with both hands. Then replace the lid.
Please note that you may have to fill the reservoir once more after the initial boiler fill.
Step 3: Turning on your machine and filling your boilers
Your machine is set up for use on a standard 110–120V outlet. Before starting the machine, make sure the steam and hot water joysticks are in their closed (center) position, the machine is switched off, and the drip tray is fully inserted.
Plug your machine directly into a grounded outlet (do not use an extension cord or power strip) and turn it on with the on/off button on the front panel. The LED ring around the power button will light up, and the display will show a Fill icon.
Place a container under the group head and press one of the shot buttons. Let the pump run for about 30 seconds, or until water flows freely from the group head, then press the shot button again to stop the water. Your brew boiler is now full.
The Fill icon will disappear, and your steam boiler will begin filling. When you no longer hear the pump running, the steam boiler is full. Note: You may need to refill your reservoir during or right after this process.
The Heating Up icon will now appear on the display. Once the machine reaches its set temperature, the brew temperature is displayed.
Lock the portafilter into the group head so it heats up along with the machine. This gives you the best temperature stability.
Step 4: Rinsing the machine
Before preparing your first espresso, rinse the machine with two to three full reservoirs of water.
Once the machine is heated, switch it off with the on/off button. Place a large container under the hot water wand and open the hot water joystick to drain the steam boiler. Close the joystick when finished.
Refill the reservoir and switch the machine back on. Wait until the brew temperature is shown on the display.
Repeat this process two to three times. On the final round, with the machine switched on, run the remaining water in the reservoir through the group head.
Step 5: Fast Heat-Up Mode and pulling your first shots
With Fast Heating enabled, the MOVE 2.0 is ready to brew in about ~7 minutes. The machine briefly heats the brew boiler to approximately 120°C (248°F) to warm the group head faster. When this temperature is reached, the Flush icon appears on the display.
The Flush icon means a flush needs to be performed within 60 seconds to bring the boiler down to your set brew temperature.
Place a container under the group head and press one of the shot buttons. The flush time in seconds is shown on the display.
After 10 seconds, the flush finishes automatically and the Ready Go icon appears. The machine is ready to pull shots!
If the flush isn't performed within 60 seconds, the machine stops the fast heat-up and brings the brew temperature down on its own. The Flush icon and the current brew temperature will alternate on the display.
Step 6: Connecting the Make Coffee Yours app and your scale
This step is optional. You can use every core function of your MOVE 2.0 without it. To use brew by weight and live shot tracking, you'll need the Make Coffee Yours app and a compatible Bluetooth scale.
Download the Make Coffee Yours app from the App Store or Google Play.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone, then power on your MOVE 2.0 and your scale.
In the app, connect to your MOVE 2.0, then connect your scale.

Step 7: Steaming milk
Once the steam temperature is displayed and reached, the steam boiler is ready to steam milk and dispense hot water.
Before steaming, point the steam wand into the drip tray and open the steam joystick for about 3 seconds to purge any condensation, then close it.
To steam, submerge the steam tip in your milk and tilt the steam joystick to open it. The joystick opens in any direction.
After steaming, wipe the wand with a damp cloth and briefly purge it again to keep the tip from clogging.
