Weber Workshops The EG-1: Setup Guide

Congratulations on your new Weber Workshops EG-1! This quick-start guide will walk you through unboxing, setting up the Blind Shaker, and grinding your first dose.

See the User Manual for full operating instructions, RPM and grind adjustment, cleaning, and troubleshooting. Please read through the entire setup guide before following along. If you have any questions, contact our team at Clive Coffee.

Step 1: Out of the box and onto the counter

  • Lift with care. The EG-1 weighs about 30 lbs. Using both hands, pull it straight up and out of the packaging.

  • Place the grinder on a solid, level, dry surface.

  • Inspect the grinder for any damage. If you notice any, contact us immediately.

  • Plug the included power cable into the C13 inlet on the back of the grinder, then into a grounded outlet. The EG-1 runs on 90–240V, so no transformer is needed.

  • Weber grinds coffee through every EG-1 during final quality control. They clean up afterward, but you may find a small amount of leftover grounds inside. This is normal.

  • In the box, you will find the EG-1, the Bean Dish, a color-matched Blind Shaker, a solid oak Platen, two leather anti-scuff pads, an RDT spray bottle, spare wiper blades, a rosewood-handled cleaning brush, and the power cable.

Step 2: Attach the Bean Dish

  1. Set the Bean Dish on top of the grinder so its stainless steel dowel pins line up with the matching holes.

  2. Lower it into place. A magnet holds the Bean Dish in position.

Step 3: Set up the Blind Shaker and Platen

  1. Place the solid oak Platen on the base, below the grounds chute.

  2. Set the Blind Shaker on the Platen. The Platen self-centers the Blind Shaker under the chute, so grounds land in the middle every time.

  3. The two leather anti-scuff pads go on the rear shelf of the base. Use them as resting spots for docks, shakers, and tumblers so they don't scuff the finish.

Step 4: Power on and set the RPM

  • Turn on the main power switch on the back of the grinder. The RPM display on the front lights up and shows the current speed setting.

  • Set the RPM. Turn the black RPM knob to adjust the burr speed. Turn it counter-clockwise to lower the speed. The display shows the RPM for a moment as you turn, so you can set it without running the grinder. Weber recommends starting in the 500–700 RPM range.

  • The On/Off button starts and stops the burrs. While the burrs are spinning, the button lights up and stays pressed in. Press it again to stop. Don't leave the grinder running for long periods.

  • The Purge button sits in the center of the RPM knob. See the User Manual for how to use it.

Step 5: Grind your first dose

The EG-1 is a single-dose grinder: you weigh out each dose before grinding, and almost nothing stays behind in the grinder afterward.

  1. Weigh your whole beans. For espresso, a typical dose is 18–20 g.

  2. Optional: lightly mist the beans with the included RDT spray bottle and stir. A little moisture reduces static, so grounds don't cling or clump.

  3. Make sure the Blind Shaker is seated on the Platen.

  4. Press the On/Off button to start the burrs. Weber recommends this "Hot Start" method: burrs spinning first, then beans.

  5. Pour your beans into the Bean Dish.

  6. When the grinder goes quiet, the dose is finished. A 20 g espresso dose takes about 10 seconds. Press the Purge button for a quick burst of maximum speed to clear the last grounds, then press On/Off to stop.

  7. Remove the Blind Shaker, give it a shake to break up any clumps, and transfer the grounds to your portafilter or brewer.

The EG-1 ships close to an espresso setting, but you will need to fine-tune it for your coffee and brew method. Grind a small amount first to check the setting, and expect to discard your first few doses while you dial in.

Step 6: Dialing in your grind

  • Adjust the grind by lifting the locking ring and turning it, then letting it settle back into place.

  • Larger numbers mean a coarser grind. Each tick moves the burrs 5 microns.

  • Make adjustments between doses, with the burr chamber empty.

  • The stepped adjustment is precise and repeatable, so write down the setting that works for each coffee and brew method. You can switch between espresso and pour-over and return to an exact setting without purging or redialing.

  • When dialing in espresso, make small adjustments and pull a shot between each change.
