Alex Duetto: Checking Fill Solenoid

Below you will find step by step instructions on checking for potential blockages or buildup that could be causing a leak in the fill solenoid in the Izzo Alex Duetto espresso machine.

A leaking fill solenoid can result in the steam boiler over filling, resulting in water leaking from the over pressure valve.

Tools needed:

  • Phillips screwdriver (for removing the 4 screws to lift off the top panel)
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 17mm deep socket/impact driver or 17mm wrench

1. Remove the top panel of the Duetto using the phillips screwdriver and removing the 4 screws from the top of the machine. The panel will then lift off.

2. Using the flathead screwdriver, remove the tab holding the solenoid body in place. Slide the black square body of the solenoid off of the post and let it sit to the side, you will be able to leave the wires plugged in during this.

3. Using a 17mm long socket with a impact driver, remove the inner post from the brass valve below. If you do not have a 17mm long socket and driver, you can alternatively remove the entire valve with a 17mm wrench, and then use the same 17mm wrench to remove the post from the brass valve with the entire assembly removed from the machine.

4. Check the inside of the brass valve body for anything that could be causing obstruction, clearing out any mineral or other residue.

5. Check the post that you have removed from the brass valve for any debris or mineral buildup and ensure that it is clean. Once it is clear you will just reinstall everything and test the machine before putting the top panel back on to ensure that there are no leaks.
