Eureka Mignon: Burr Inspection
Use this guide to access and inspect the burrs on your Eureka Mignon espresso grinder, including: Specialita, Silenzio, and Zero.
Tools Needed:
- #1 Philips Screwdriver
- #2 Philips Screwdriver
1. Remove the Eureka emblem from the rear of the grinder.
2. Use the #2 Philips screwdriver to remove the screw that holds the top panel in place.
(Note: Try bracing the grinder with one hand, while you press firmly with your screwdriver and turn the screw with the other hand.)
3. Lift the top panel up and out to remove.
4. Use the #1 Philips screwdriver to remove the front panel top screws.
5. Use the #2 Philips screwdriver to remove the lower front panel screw.
6. Gently lift the front panel up and away. Take care not to damage or unplug any of the electrical wires. You can allow the front panel to rest off to the side.
7. Remove the rubber chute cover.
8. Use the #1 Philips screwdriver to undo the two chute retaining screws. Set the chute aside.
9. Look in through the grinder's grind window and take note of the burr profile.
10. Turn the central burr spindle with your fingers while looking at the burrs in profile.
- Does the spindle turn smoothly and easily?
- Does the distance between the burrs remain even throughout the lower burr's full rotation?
11. A little at a time, turn the grinder's adjustment nob finer to bring the burrs closer together, while continuing to turn the central spindle.
- Does the distance between the burrs remain even at finer grind settings?
- Are you able to turn the adjustment knob until the burrs touch?
- Do the burrs touch evenly all the way around or does one area seem to touch first?
- Can you hear/feel the burrs touching as you turn the spindle, even though the burrs don't look like they're touching from the front?
The answers to the above questions will help us diagnose potential problems with your grinder's burrs or adjustment mechanism.
