Getting Started:

After reading through the LUCCA Solo Setup Guide, test your water. Espresso machines have specific requirements when it comes to water. There are two primary considerations: filtration and hardness. Please carefully read about the importance of water in espresso to understand how water affects your espresso machine. For further learning, check out Coffee School's Water 101

Note: It's essential to test your water, filter, and soften to obtain 35-85 ppm to avoid scale and damage to your machine. RO (reverse osmosis) or distilled water does not contain enough mineral content and could cause issues with your machine. The SCA Water for Brewing Standards explains what's needed to obtain water that's suitable for your machine and coffee.

Changing the Brew Temperature:

  • The default temperature will be set to 93C or 200F.

  • To alter the brew temperature, press and release the left PID button. The display will read PrG. Press and release the right button to view the set temperature. Use the left and right buttons to increase or decrease the set temperature. If you do nothing, the PID will revert back to normal operation. The recommended brewing temperature is between 194 and 205 F.

Setting ECO Mode:

  • ECO mode allows the machine to turn off the heating element when it is idle to save energy. The timer has a range of a minimum of 10 minutes to a maximum of 240 minutes (4 Hours). Press the left button, and the display will read PrG. Press the left button again, and the display will read ECO. Press the right button, and the display will read off by default.
  • To set a specific time, continue to your desired time by pressing the right button. The timer will count in minute increments up to 240 minutes. To decrease the time, press the left button until you reach the desired time. After you select the desired time, after 2-3 seconds, the display will change to ECO. Press the left button to exit and save settings.
  • After the heating element turns off, to wake the machine, simply lift the brew lever. The red light will turn on, indicating the heat element is activated.

Advanced PID Settings:

  • The PID comes with the optimal settings already adjusted, so we only recommend entering the advanced PID settings if you'd like to change the temperature unit from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
  • To access the advanced settings with the machine turned off, hold down both arrow keys and immediately turn the main power switch on. When F.03 appears on the display, the arrow keys are released.
  • Press the up arrow key to select and change the existing setting. •
  • After changing a setting, you must wait a few seconds for the display to revert back, and then you can press the down arrow key to cycle to the next setting.

Pump Pressure Adjustment:

  • To access the pump pressure adjustment screw, first remove the cup warming tray. The expansion valve adjustment screw is located on the left top panel.
  • To set the pump pressure, replace your portafilter basket with the backflush basket and lock it into the group head.
  • Raise the brew lever and then wait a few seconds for the pressure to rise,  After the pressure has risen, use a flathead screwdriver to turn the expansion valve adjustment screw.
  • Turning clockwise will increase the pressure, and counterclockwise will decrease the pressure. The recommended setting with the back flush in is about 9-10 bar pressure.
