LUCCA M58: Multimeter Testing the Heating Elements
Here are step by step photos for checking the resistance of the coffee and steam boiler in the Quick Mill LUCCA M58 Espresso Machine. (Difficulty ☕☕)
Tools Needed:
- 7mm wrench or adjustable wrench
- Multimeter with Ohm rating function
1. Remove the top panel, the drip tray, and the water reservoir from the machine so no water will spill out
2. Lay the machine on its side, we recommend laying down a soft towel to protect the chrome finish of the side panel.
3. Remove the lower panel access panel of the machine by removing the nuts holding it in place. Most machines have 4, however, some have 3 from the factory.
4. The coffee boiler element is towards the center, the steam boiler element is towards the side of the machine (the left side if looking at the machine upright and standing in front of it).
5. Place the probes of the multimeter on each leg of one element at a time. The resistance reading for these elements should be within a few tenths of 11.0 Ohms. If either element reads significantly higher or displays no continuity, it's likely that the element will need to be replaced.
NOTE: To get the most accurate reading, disconnect the electrical connectors from the element before testing.
