Bezzera BZ10: Safety Valve/Vacuum Breaker/Pressure Stat Service

A continuously dripping drain valve or issues with weak or absent steam/hot water — these are signs that your BZ10's combination safety valve/vacuum breaker assembly may need attention.

Before we get started you'll need to remove the panels of your BZ10. Make sure the machine is unplugged and allow it to fully cool off.

Tools Needed:

NOTE: The machine's pressure stat is screwed into the combination safety valve / vacuum breaker assembly. The safety valve + pressure stat come as one part. If you need to replace the pressure stat on your BZ10 follow steps 1-7.

1. Locate the combination safety valve / vacuum breaker assembly and remove the tubing from both sides (the zip ties on the tubing can be cut off) :

2. Remove the wires from the pressure stat. (Use this photo as a reference when re-installing the wires.)

3. Use two wrenches to unscrew the valve assembly from the copper delivery tube. One wrench will apply counter torque to the valve assembly, while the other wrench will turn the brass compression fitting on the copper delivery tube.

6. Wrap the threading of the new valve assembly with several rounds of PTFE Tape (or Teflon tape) like so:

7. You're all set to follow these steps 3-1 in reverse order to install the replacement combination safety valve/vacuum breaker assembly onto the machine! We recommend replacing the zip ties on the tubing as well.

Alternate method for removing the valve assembly from the machine:

With the 12mm wrench, remove the copper tubing that is attached to the safety valve / vacuum breaker from the top of the boiler:

Once the assembly is removed from the boiler, use the 17mm wrench and the adjustable to counter torque and loosen the fitting separating the safety valve / vacuum breaker from the copper tubing:
