ECM Synchronika: Cleaning the Fill Probe
An over-filling condition can cause your machine's steam boiler to over-pressurize. Follow these instructions to clean your machine's steam boiler fill probe.
Tools Needed:
- 3mm Allen Wrench
- 19mm Combination Wrench OR Adjustable Wrench
- PTFE Tape - Teflon tape
NOTE: The machine should be unplugged and fully cooled down before beginning.
1. Remove the panels of the machine.
2. Locate the fill probe and unplug the wiring from the top.

3. Use the 19mm wrench to unscrew the whole fill probe assembly from the boiler.
*A 19mm deep socket and ratcheting wrench may make this task a bit easier.

4. Using steel wool or a steel bristle brush clean the probe of any scale or debris. Make sure the threads on both the fill probe assembly and the boiler are clean.

5. Wrap the fill probe threads in a few layers of PTFE tape to create a water-tight seal.
6. Screw the whole fill probe assembly back into the top of the boiler. Be careful not to over-tighten.
7. Make sure that the probe is pressed down into the complete assembly as far as possible, then use a 13mm wrench to tighten the upper retaining nut, ensuring that the probe is securely fastened in place. The fill probe should not be able to slide up and down without loosening the retaining nut.
To do this, start with the machine off and direct the hot water wand into a large pitcher, then fully open the hot water valve and power the machine on. As the machine reaches full temperature, water will begin to flow from the hot water wand. Wait for ~8-12 fl oz to be dispensed, then flip the hot water valve to the fully closed position and allow the machine to re-fill the boiler and finish heating as normal.
