LUCCA M58: Unplugging the Brew Boiler Heating Element
If your machine is tripping the GFCI outlet, this guide will help you determine if the brew boiler heating element is the cause of the ground fault.
Tools Needed:- 7mm open-ended wrench or socket or adjustable wrench
- Flathead screwdriver
- Towel (s)
NOTE: This procedure is not advised if your machine is leaking internally. Resolve the leak first, then proceed.
1. Remove the cup warming tray, drip tray, and water reservoir from the machine.
2. Tilt the machine onto its front, placing a folded up towel under the group head as shown. You may wish to lay an additional towel down underneath the machine to protect the work surface.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove any other panels at this time.
3. Identify the access panel for the heating elements on the underside of the machine.
4. Use a wrench to unscrew the four acorn nuts holding the access panels in place. Remove the access panel and set it aside.
5. Identify the brew boiler heating element.
6. Unplug the electrical connectors attached to the heating element and push them aside so they can't contact the heating element.
7. Now set the machine back on its feet, replace the drip tray, and fill and reinstall the water reservoir—then power the machine on.
If the machine continues tripping the GFCI, further troubleshooting will need to be performed.
If the machine powers on without tripping the GFCI, continue to testing the brew boiler heating element with a multimeter:
