Rancilio Silvia Pro X: Inspecting and Cleaning the Fill Probe
Only a clean fill probe can accurately register the water level in the steam boiler. Follow these steps to make sure that the fill probe in your machine is clean.
Tools Needed:
- 12mm crescent wrench
- Wire bristle brush or scouring pad
1. Remove the panels from the machine.
2. Identify the fill probe on the top of the steam boiler.

3. Remove the electrical connections on the heating element legs to give yourself room to work.

4. Unplug the red electrical lead from the fill probe.

5. Use the 12mm wrench to loosen the brass fill probe retaining nut by 3 or 4 full turns.

6. Firmly grip the fill probe and pull it straight out.

Note: If you need to use a pair of pliers to accomplish this, avoid marring the fill probe.
7. Use the wire bristle brush or the scouring pad to thoroughly clean off any scaling or mineral deposits from the fill probe. The fill probe should be smooth and shiny.
