Macap M4D / M7D: Setup Guide Video
Congratulations on your new Macap M4D or M7D Espresso Grinder. Dialing in your coffee grinder isn't always easy. We discuss the steps to fine-tune your burr grinder for the best possible extraction.
Join Ben as he demonstrates how to set up and dial-in the Macap M4D and Macap M7D Espresso Grinder. Please note that Clive Coffee also offers a grinder dial-in service if you prefer to have someone else do the hard work for you! Please note that we have an updated version of this video that specifically covers the M7D setup.
The video shows our recommendation of setting the grind time first and then adjusting the grind coarser or finer to get the correct volume of coffee for your portafilter and basket (16-18 grams for most spouted portafilters, 20 grams for most bottomless portafilters). Once you have the right volume of coffee set, start pulling shots. If 1.5oz of espresso is dispensed faster than 25-30 seconds, adjust your grind finer. If your 1.5oz espresso takes longer than 30 seconds, adjust your grind coarser. Also keep in mind that because there is a small amount of coffee inside the grinder, adjustments won't be instantaneous (so be careful not to overcompensate based on the results of your first test after an adjustment).
Please note that the burrs will break in and become more consistent over the first few pounds of coffee, but you do not need to worry about pre-seasoning them before use.
