La Marzocco Linea Mini R Espresso Machine: Setup Guide
Congratulations on your new La Marzocco Linea Mini (Reimagined) Espresso Machine! In this guide, you should find everything you need to set up and operate your dual-boiler espresso machine.
Please read through the entirety of the setup guide before following along. If you have any questions, contact our team at Clive Coffee. Additional information can be found in the La Marzocco Linea Mini User Manual
Step 1: Inspect the box and the machine for damage
- Remove the machine from the box and place it on a stable, level surface.
- Before adding water and turning on the machine, inspect for damage that may have occurred during shipping. If you notice any damage, contact us immediately.
- Save all packaging in case of returns and repairs.
Step 2: Water quality and filling the reservoir
- Before introducing water to your machine, it's essential to test it to ensure it's adequately soft, around 50 ppm (parts per million). Use the included water test strips to verify the hardness of your water. To learn more about our recommendations for water quality, check out our blog post, The Importance of Water and Your Espresso Machine. Do not use distilled or Zero water in your espresso machine, as the machine will not register that the reservoir has been filled.
- La Marzocco also provides a more comprehensive water testing kit in the accessories box.
- Remove the drain box tray by lifting it up and out from the frame of the machine. The drain box is held onto the frame by powerful magnets. Pull out the reservoir from under the machine and remove the lid. Fill the water tank with your filtered, softened water, and place the cup warming tray back on top of the machine. Do not overfill the reservoir.
- Please note that you may have to fill the reservoir once more after the initial boiler fill phase.
Step 3: Turning on your machine and filling your boilers
- Your machine is set for use on a 110v outlet. Prior to starting the machine, check if the steam valve is closed. Check to ensure the machine is off (the power button is not pressed inward) and the drip tray is inserted accurately.
- Plug your machine directly into a grounded socket (do not use an extension cord) and turn it on by using the ON/OFF switch on the bottom right frame of the machine.
- The blue water light will be solid when there is enough water in the machine. Furthermore, the red heating light will blink while the machine is heating. Once the red heating light is solid, your brew boiler is at your set brewing temperature.
- You will know the steam boiler is at temperature and pressurized once the needle of the steam boiler gauge is at or above 1.5 bar pressure.
- Note: You may need to refill your water reservoir during or immediately after this process.
- Place the portafilter into the group head to ensure maximum temperature stability.
- Once the boilers are filled, the machine is fully heated within 12-15 minutes.
Step 4: Pulling your first shots
- At this point, your machine is ready to pull your first shots. With coffee in your portafilter, lock it into the group head and activate the brew paddle by pushing it all the way to the left. Stop your shot by pushing the brew paddle all the way to the right.
- Once your shot is pulled, dispose of the spent espresso puck in a knock box.
- Ensure that the portafilter is clean and dry for your next shot.
Step 5: Steaming milk
- After about 15 minutes, the Linea Mini's steam boiler is pressurized and ready to steam milk and purge hot water.
- Turn the right knob counter-clockwise to activate the steam wand. The steam wand is fully articulating and can fit in any steam pitcher.
- You’re now ready to steam milk!
- Once finished steaming, turn the steam knob clockwise until it's fully closed.
Step 6: La Marzocco connected app functionality
- Many of the Linea Mini's settings are controlled through its companion app, which can be downloaded for iOS and Android devices.
- Once downloaded and after you create an account, the app will search for available machines. Ensure that your WiFi and Bluetooth are turned on.
- Once on the main status page, you can now turn the machine on/off remotely, alter the temperature of the brew boiler, change the steam power intensity, schedule on/off and stand-by times, and program pre-infusion.
- Refer to the Linea Mini Setup Video for a guide on other features.
