WEBER WORKSHOPS The Key Coffee Grinder: Setup Guide

Congratulations on your new WEBER WORKSHOPS The Key Coffee Grinder. Let's get it set up!

This quick-start guide will walk you through setting up your grinder. Check the product page for a list of included accessories, details, and specs. See the User Manual for information on operating the grinder and for additional resources.

Unboxing the Key:

Step one: Out of the box and onto the counter

  • Remove the grinder from its box and place it on a solid-level surface.
  • Inspect the grinder for any damage. If you notice any, contact us immediately.
  • Option 1: Use the grinder without attaching the included magic or standard wiper. To eliminate static electricity, we recommend using RDT (one spray of water per dose of coffee). The spritzer bottle is included in the box. Now, attach the Magic Tumbler to the magnetic mount. Please note that the Magic Tumbler comes with the KEY Grinder. The Standard tumbler is sold separately.
  • Option 2: Install the wiper (magic or standard). For installation instructions, please refer to the manufacturer's manual in the additional resources section.

Step two: Operating your grinder & dialing in your grind

  • Plug in your grinder using the included C13-style cable. The KEY is made to be usable in 100v - 240v regions without the need for a separate transformer.
  • The main power switch is located on the rear of the key. The ON position is upward.
  • The recommended RPM Adjustment starting point is in the 50-70 rpm range. The RPM adjustment knob is located on the right chassis next to the ON/OFF button and the cleaning brush insert.
  • Do not make a grind adjustment until after you've pulled your first shot. The KEY ships pre-set to a reasonable grind setting for espresso. You will need to make adjustments for your specific use case, whether it's espresso, pour-over, Moka pot, etc.
  • Verify that the locking ring sits flush with the burr collar and the pins are completely engaged. Grind adjustments are made by lifting and turning the locking ring. Clockwise adjusts the grind setting to finer, and turning it counter-clockwise adjusts the grind setting to coarser. Make small adjustments, as this mechanism is fairly sensitive.
  • PLEASE NOTE: WEBER WORKSHOPS tests the KEY with coffee prior to shipping, so there may be residual grounds in the grinder.
