La Marzocco GS3: Vacuum Breaker Maintenance

Below are photo instructions for maintaining the vacuum breaker on a La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machine. (Difficulty ☕☕)

Tools required:

NOTE: The machine should be unplugged and cool to the touch before beginning.

1. Start by removing the top, right and back panels from the machine.

2. Identify the vacuum breaker assembly installed in the right side of the steam boiler, then remove the silicone tube from the vacuum breaker cap.

3. Remove the vacuum breaker assembly from the machine by unscrewing the brass compression nut where it attaches to the boiler.

4. Access the vacuum breaker's internal components by unscrewing the vacuum breaker cap from the body of the vacuum breaker assembly. Discard the worn internal components and replace them with the new components included in the vacuum breaker rebuild kit.

5. Make sure to assemble the new vacuum breaker internal components in the correct orientation before re-assembling the vacuum breaker.

6. Re-assemble the vacuum breaker, making sure to orient the top cap and the vacuum breaker body in the correct direction. Then re-install the compression fitting on the side of the boiler.
