Bezzera BZ10: Expansion Valve Replacement
Follow these instructions to replace the expansion valve on the Bezzera BZ10.
Tools Needed:
- 15mm crescent wrench
- 10mm crescent wrench
- Adjustable wrench
- PTFE tape
1. Start by removing the panels from the machine.
2. Identify the machine's expansion valve and surrounding assembly.
2. Use the adjustable wrench to hold the whole plumbing assembly steady as you unscrew the two brass compression fittings with the 15mm wrench as shown.
3. Unplug the two silicone lines as shown.
4. Unplug the electrical connections at the solenoid box.
(Use this photo for reference during re-assembly.)
5. Unscrew the retaining nut for the teflon supply line; hold the plumbing assembly with the adjustable wrench as shown, then unscrew the retaining nut with the 10mm wrench.
6. Pull the plumbing assembly that includes the expansion valve and lay it on your work surface.
(Take note of the expansion valve orientation relative to the rest of the assembly. Use this photo for reference during re-assembly.)
7. Hold the plumbing assembly firmly with one hand, then use the adjustable wrench to unscrew the expansion valve as shown. You may need to use the work surface to provide leverage to hold the assembly steady.
8. After separating the expansion valve from the main plumbing assembly, clean off any excess thread sealant and check that the plumbing is free of obstructions.
9. Wrap the threads on the brass T-connector with PTFE tape to prevent leaks.
10. Follow these directions in reverse to install the new expansion valve and re-assemble the plumbing assembly.
